Abby Sunderland

I’m going a little off topic today… I hope that’s alright…

Yesterday we all heard the news that Abby Sunderland… a 16 year old young lady attempting the sailing around was in trouble in the Southern Indian Ocean. Apparently she was lost at sea and she lost contact with her parents. She was hoping to become the youngest person to sail around the world… and now we all feared the worst.

I started to pray for Abby… I know her family are born again Christians and there is great power in prayer!

As I went to bed last night… I prayed for Abby and throughout the night I would check my Blackberry for any news in regard to her situation. I don’t even know this family… but, I felt compelled to pray.

This morning I checked Abby’s blog and found some wonderful news! Abby was fine… but her boat had received some damage as the mast was damaged due to the high waves (20 to 30 footers?). None the less… contact was restored and she will be rescued soon!

I know her parents are going to receive a great deal of criticism for letting Abby do this… but it seems to me that Abby is a very determined young lady and I am deeply impressed but her desire to achieve an amazing goal in life. Even though… from the looks of things she won’t achieve this goal, I feel she’s already accomplished a great, great thing. My dad once told me… “the only failure is a no try.” That statement has stuck with me ever since and I believe Abby is not a failure. I applaud her effort and pray that God will smile and shed His grace on her as she awaits to be rescued.

You’re an inspiration Abby!!!

There Is No One – Day One

Posted on 10 June 2010 | No responses

Today I started production for the next song on my project “You Are My Refuge.”

Many… if not all the songs from this project were written during my times of personal worship in preparation for leading Harp & Bowl sets at Destiny Foursquare Church. At the time they were fresh expressions of my heart in worship… spontaneous compositions that were later refined for the times when I would lead worship.

“There Is No One” was one of those songs and I chose to start production on this track today! As I proceed… please join me in praying for God’s blessing and touch on this effort. I would appreciate that so much… thank you!

Here we go…

There is no one

There is no one
There is no one like You
(repeat)

Great is Your mercy
Amazing in grace
We see Your Glory
Here in this place

Just had to add one more video in memory of Dana Key… of the famed CCM Band, DeGarmo & Key. I still can’t believe he’s passed on…

Life is so brief… so, live, love… forgive… and give your all with the days we have before us. Life is a gift…

The Reflection Series

Posted on 8 June 2010 | No responses

Some of you may be wondering… what happened to “Spring Reflections” and the “Reflection” series?

I started this series a little over a year ago. It’s been a fun project and the goal was to record four seasonal offerings beginning with… Summer Reflections, Autumn Reflections and Winter Reflections. As the new year arrived I started composing music for the last and final release in this series, Spring Reflections. Within the first couple of months I recorded three songs, New Life, April Showers and An Awakening. As I started to compose the 4th track for this release… I hit a creative wall. I tried to press through, but… everything started to sound the same to me. It was at this point that I started to think that I needed a break… thus the reason I started working on my next vocal album. Adding to that… I’ve been experiencing a time of renewal in my passion for worship. All in all… the transition has been great, but don’t worry… I plan to complete this instrumental seasonal series in the coming months ahead.

So… with all this in mind, and after discussing this with my wife Jill… I’ve decided to combine my favorite songs from each of these recordings (as well as the three tracks from Spring Reflections) and release a recording simply called “Reflections.”

If you desire to download the (original) full versions from this seasonal series you may do so at Amadeo Music. While you are there, check out some of the other artists and releases available at Amadeo! You won’t regret it!

So… it is with great excitement that I offer you “Reflections.” A perfect soundtrack for your quiet time, personal bible study, or soaking in God’s peaceful, refreshing presence. The download is $8.99 and your support and purchase will go a long way to helping and sustaining our efforts in ministry! Please know it’s something we appreciate so much!

Dana Key

It’s no secret… my all time fave CCM band is DeGarmo & Key. To this day… I have nearly every album they released on my iPod. For me… the music has a timeless quality and I will always value the influence this band and it’s music has brought into my heart, and life!

This morning I am deeply saddened to hear of Dana Key’s passing. My heart grieves for his wife Anita, and his family… but I also know that Dana is now fully WHOLE and COMPLETE rejoicing in the arms of Jesus!

Dana… your voice, your songs… your guitar playing impacted my life in so many ways! I am looking forward to seeing you at The Family Reunion!!!

You Rejoice Over Me – Video

This version is a temporary video… my dear friend Shawn Shoup is going to produce an official video sometime this Summer. In the meantime… I hope you enjoy viewing this version.

Still considering what song to record next… hoping to start on it sometime tomorrow.

Zeroing In

Posted on 3 June 2010 | No responses

Yes, you’ve guessed it… I am still editing “You Rejoice Over Me.”

After repeat listens… I’ve decided the guitar solo at the end wasn’t the right idea for the last run through of the chorus. I decided to go with an distorted octave strum to help the build up at the end of that tag chorus.

Plus I added another echo vocal part as well… (in the same section) so, I am zeroing in on this track.

That’s the way it is when it comes to producing and recording music… it starts with all kinds of ideas and then over the course of time, things are added and taken away… until you hit the bulls eye on the track. Pressing on…

Studio Break Today

Posted on 2 June 2010 | No responses

Well… sort of a break today. I have done some minor editing to “You Rejoice Over Me.” As noted in my last post… I usually keep editing until I get what I am looking for… or what I am totally content with. As far as “You Rejoice Over Me?” I am pretty close… I think!?

Anyway… not sure what song to work on next. I’ve written so many over the years. Songs birthed in preparation for the times when I lead Harp & Bowl at Destiny… and they’re songs that have never been recorded. So… as I take a break from the studio, I am praying and consider what song to record next. Hopefully you’ll join me in praying as well… I desire God’s leading and direction. Thanks!

You Rejoice Over Me – MP3 Preview

Posted on 1 June 2010 | No responses

I think I am done… but, experience has shown that I might do some revisions to this track over the next few days, but… for all intents and purposes, I believe I have pretty much what I was hoping for on this particular track.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been listening to a lot of Sean Feucht’s “Rebirth and Reclamation” album, as well as a steady diet of Delirious and U2. So… there is a touch of those influences on this track… echo guitars, spacey guitars… shiny splash guitars… as well as a little KV solo action near the end of the song to give it a personal touch.

It was a fun tune to record and I hope it blesses you when you listen to this preview. If you wish to download it… you may do so, give whatever you can and if you can’t afford anything, please download the song for free as our gift to you!

Blessings, and thanks for listening!

We Remember!

My father, Edward Allen Verheecke served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force. He loved aviation and followed his dream of flight.

He wasn’t perfect… had many faults, but… he was also a HUGE encouragement within my heart and life. He used to tell me… “Ken, you can do whatever you want in life. You’re only limitation is what you put on yourself.”

Dad, I want you to know… I am in my 32nd year of follow my dream! Thank you for your amazing example in life. Today… I remember you as well as all those who have served our country! We remember…
